LinkedIn Outreach 101
Learn how to build, automate, launch, and improve LinkedIn outreach campaigns with Cluster.
Introduction
You’ve probably noticed that LinkedIn outreach gets a much higher reply rate than email. The reasons why are intuitive:
- You establish credibility and trust immediately since people can view your profile.
- Because people have a limited amount of LinkedIn connections per week, you can’t send mass LinkedIn messages like you can with cold email, which means inboxes are less flooded.
- People are already in a professional, networking mindset when they’re on LinkedIn, so outreach feels more natural and less intrusive than a cold email.
You’re probably wondering how this can be scaled and automated, so you can
- Avoid wasting time sending hundreds of invites and messages manually
- Track what works instead of shooting from the hip with every message
- Stay on top of follow-ups
In this guide, we cover exactly how you can do this with Cluster.
Step 1: Connect and configure your LinkedIn account
To send LinkedIn outreach through Cluster, you first need to connect a LinkedIn account.
Choose the right sending account
The account you use matters. Prospects will evaluate the person contacting them—not just the message—so an active, credible profile will usually perform better than a new or mostly empty account.
For founder-led outreach, the founder’s account is often the best starting point. If multiple people on your team will be sending, each person can connect their own account.
Make sure every sending account has:
- A clear profile photo and cover image
- An accurate current role
- A clear headline. Ideally, include social proof (e.g. “ex OpenAI”, “10M revenue generated for law firms”, etc.)
Connect your account
Unlike tools that require a browser extension or ask you to manually copy a LinkedIn session cookie, Cluster uses a hosted login flow to establish a persistent cloud connection.
Your browser doesn’t need to stay open, changes to your local cookies won’t interrupt campaigns, and each account maintains a consistent regional session. Cluster does not store your LinkedIn password, and you can complete any verification request using email, SMS or an authenticator app.
Configure your sending schedule
Once connected, you can configure:
- Which days outreach should run
- What time sending begins
- The account’s daily and weekly limits
Cluster intentionally spreads actions across a sending window instead of sending every connection request at once. This creates more natural pacing and helps protect account health.
Step 2: Build and qualify a lead list
Great LinkedIn outreach starts with the right audience. Better copy cannot rescue a list of irrelevant prospects.
Cluster can build lead lists from several starting points.
Import a list you already have
If you already know whom you want to contact, you can start with:
- A CSV containing LinkedIn profile URLs
- A LinkedIn Sales Navigator search or list
- Contacts from a connected CRM
- A list created by another agent or research workflow
Find people showing relevant intent
You can also build lists around signals that suggest a person or company may be more receptive to your message.
Examples include:
- People who engaged with a relevant LinkedIn post
- Followers of a relevant company or competitor
- Companies hiring for a particular role
- Recent job changes or promotions
- Companies that recently raised funding
- People connected to someone in your network

Step 3: Create, review and launch your sequence
Once you have a qualified audience, the next step is deciding what should happen after they enter the campaign.
Choose a sequence structure
A LinkedIn sequence can be as simple as:
- 01Send a connection request
- 02Wait for the person to accept
- 03Send a message
- 04Follow up if they do not reply
If you want to maximize reply rate, you can also create a multi-channel sequence:
- 01Send a LinkedIn connection request
- 02Send an email
- 03Follow up on LinkedIn
- 04Send another email with new information
- 05Send a final breakup message
The right structure depends on your audience, offer and existing outreach motion. If you already have a manual sequence that works, start by recreating it in Cluster instead of inventing a completely new play.
Step 4: Track outreach and stay organized
Automation isn’t just about sending more messages. When done well, it helps you learn and iterate faster on your messaging than you ever could manually.
Measure what matters
Cluster tracks important outreach metrics automatically. For example:
- Connection acceptance rate
- Message reply rate
- Overall reply rate
These metrics can help you understand your campaign performance in detail.
A low acceptance rate may indicate weak targeting, an untrusted sending profile or a connection note that needs work. A healthy acceptance rate but low reply rate usually points to the message, offer or follow-up strategy.
Stay on top of replies
Campaign replies from multiple accounts and channels can be reviewed centrally in Cluster with a unified inbox. This helps ensure leads don’t slip through the cracks!
For advanced follow-up automation, the platform offers many solutions such as:
- Native Attio, HubSpot, and Salesforce integrations
- MCP & CLI for agents
- An API for your LinkedIn inbox
FAQ
- Is LinkedIn automation safe?
No automation tool can guarantee that a LinkedIn account will never be challenged or restricted.
Cluster uses configurable limits, sending windows and paced activity to reduce risk. You should still begin conservatively, avoid combining high manual volume with automated sends, and use an account you are authorized to operate.
- Does Cluster automatically launch campaigns?
Cluster can create a complete campaign draft without launching it. Nothing begins sending until the campaign is launched.
You can review and launch it in the app or explicitly ask a connected agent to launch it.
- Can I connect multiple LinkedIn accounts?
Yes. Multiple team members can connect their accounts and use them for campaigns.
Each account has its own configuration and sending capacity. Make sure everyone has authorized the connection and that each campaign uses the intended sender.
- Should I include a note in my connection request?
Both options are supported. We generally recommend starting without a note and adding one later if acceptance rates are low (below 20%).
- Can I use a Sales Navigator search?
Yes. You can import prospects from a Sales Navigator search or list.
The import is a snapshot rather than an automatically growing audience. To capture newly added prospects, rerun the import or use a recurring signal-based workflow.
- Can LinkedIn and email be used in the same campaign?
Yes. Cluster supports multi-channel sequences that combine LinkedIn connection requests, LinkedIn messages and email.
Use the same representative’s LinkedIn and email accounts whenever possible so the conversation remains coherent.
- How does Cluster avoid contacting the same person twice?
Cluster checks campaign history and contact identity to reduce duplicate outreach.
When importing from several sources or syncing with a CRM, use consistent LinkedIn URLs and email addresses. These are the strongest identifiers for matching the same person across systems.
